CRCB-PACS COMPLETED AND FUTURE PROJECTS IN NICARAGUA, UNDER CONTRACTS WITH OUR PARTNERS VAMED AND MAKIBER

In the latest years the Nicaraguan government, with the credit support of international financing institutions, has been putting a lot of efforts in improving the health care in the country. Several hospitals and clinics have been built or are under constructions. Two international companies, the Austrian VAMED and the Spanish MAKIBER have been selected in the bidding processes for the construction and equipment of some of the hospitals. CRCB-PACS is proud of being selected to provide the PACS Systems to these companies and projects.

Completed Projects

Hospital Héroes de las Segovias

The Heroes de las Segovias Hospital, located in the city of Ocotal in the Nueva Segovia department in Nicaragua, was officially inaugurated on Sunday, October 5, 2025, as part of the Government of Nicaragua’s efforts to strengthen the public health system in the northern region of the country. This initiative seeks to expand medical coverage in hard-to-reach areas and will benefit more than 279,000 residents, reducing the need to travel to Managua for specialized treatments.This modern medical center—considered one of the largest in Nicaragua’s public health system—represents an investment of nearly 95 million dollars. The facility was built on a site of over 40,000-square-meter site, with 25,000 square meters dedicated to seven modular, three-story buildings.

The hospital has a capacity of 236 beds and includes five operating rooms. It offers 15 medical specialties and nine subspecialties, among them internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, general surgery, orthopedics, plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, vascular surgery, otolaryngology, cardiology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, gynecologic oncology, oncology, chemotherapy, nephrology with dialysis and hemodialysis, a pain clinic, rehabilitation with hydrotherapy, and an obstetrics and neonatology unit.

In addition, the hospital is equipped with advanced technology such as endoscopy, laparoscopy, arthroscopy, CT scanning, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, and C-arm imaging systems.

CRCB PACS is proud to support the hospital, through VAMED, by providing the PACS System. This includes a dedicated viewing room for the Radiology department, as well as access to medical images from other consulting rooms and wards throughout the hospital.

Oscar Danilo Rosales Arguello School Hospital (HEODRA)

In September 2025, the Oscar Danilo Rosales Arguello Teaching Hospital (HEODRA), located in León, Nicaragua, was inaugurated. This new facility will provide high-quality medical care to more than 800,000 people in the western region of the country.

The hospital was built on a site of over 50,000 square meters, with 36,000 square meters dedicated to a complex of seven five-story buildings. It has a capacity of 461 beds and represents an investment of more than 118 million dollars.

HEODRA is equipped with 11 operating rooms, including three smart operating rooms and one dedicated to organ transplantation—making it the first public hospital in Nicaragua with this capability. It offers a wide range of specialized services such as cardiology, neurosurgery, oncology, nephrology, pediatrics, gynecology-obstetrics, plastic surgery, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, and intensive care with 18 spaces, three of them pediatric.

The hospital also includes an emergency unit, outpatient consultation, hospitalization services, a clinical laboratory, pathology, morgue, rehabilitation, chemotherapy, dialysis, and endoscopy. In addition, it features 24 hemodialysis chairs and mammography services.

HEODRA is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 3-tesla magnetic resonator, CT scanner, three C-arms, seven endoscopy towers, four laparoscopy towers, a fluoroscope, an angiograph, hemodynamics equipment, two extracorporeal circulation systems, X-ray machines, mammography, echocardiography, Doppler echo, ultrasound, and a monitoring center for intensive care.

Hospital de la Mujer Bertha Calderón in Managua

In 2017, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health inaugurated the modern Emergency and Radiology building at the Bertha Calderón Women's Hospital. VAMED was responsible for the construction and equipment and subcontracted CRCB-PACS for the installation of the PACS System and two viewing rooms with 4 working stations to process ultrasound and mammography images, as well as tomography studies.

Hospital Manolo Morales in Managua

In 2019 under a contract with VAMED, CRCB-PACS installed the PACS System in the new annex building of Manolo Morales Peralta Hospital in Managua. With this new building, the hospital expanded its radiology and emergency services.

The CRCB-PACS system enables the seamless integration, secure storage, robust backup, and dynamic visualization of images and studies originating from three ultrasound machines, one X-ray device, one CT scanner, and one MRI. This advanced system significantly streamlines and enhances the diagnostic processes for healthcare professionals, including doctors and radiology specialists. Furthermore, it features a dedicated viewing room equipped with four workstations and extends access to ten viewing stations situated across various consulting rooms and halls, further optimizing clinical workflows.

Each year, the PACS System processes around 30,000 ultrasound images, 50,000 X-rays, 12,000 CT scans, and 5,000 MRI scans.

Future Projects

Hospital Nuevo Amanecer de Bilwi, In the North Caribbean of Nicaragua

In 2024 the North Caribbean Region of Nicaragua will have its regional hospital as well. MAKIBER is in charge of the construction and equipment. The hospital will have 207 beds and will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical services, such as physical medicine, rehabilitation, oncology, chemotherapy, hemodialysis, ophthalmology, nephrology, pain clinic, endoscopy, emergency, outpatient consultation, imaging, hospitalization, obstetrics, neonatology and pharmacy, as well as 6 operating rooms.

Under request of MAKIBER, CRCB-PACS has delivered recently the PACS System, which includes a RIS platform, 7 working stations, and a Data Backup system. The installation works will start early 2026.
